THE WITNESS

The Witness is a mixed media piece crafted from an antler and human hair. The wild and tangled arrangement of my mother's hair, woven into the antler—a trophy from my father—reflects my interpretation of my parents' dynamic.

​

This artwork crystallizes the domestic disputes I witnessed as a child, with each material embodying their personalities during those moments of tension. The antler symbolizes my father, capturing his powerless and passive behavior, frozen in the face of my mother's cold anger. Her chaotic and unpredictable nature is revealed in the braids of her hair, which savagely pierce the animal's skull.

After more than 50 years of marriage, nothing has changed. Even though I rarely see my parents, their dynamic remains the same, particularly in their domestic disputes. The piece is as true to reality now as it was back then.
