The wild and tangled arrangement of the antler and hair in this art piece is a vivid representation of my parents' relationship.The antler, trophy by my father, depicts a steady and grounded symbol of him, is woven into the chaotic and unpredictable hair of my mother.

 

It represents the two distinct personalities and roles in their relationship. My father, like the antler, has been a steady and unwavering figure, providing stability and a strong foundation for our family.

 

My mother, on the other hand, is represented by small twisted braids - from her own long braid she wore for 40 years before she cut it - which symbolize her more erratic and unpredictable nature.

 

It symbolizes the twists and turns, ups and downs, and challenges they have faced along the way. Despite the difficulties, they have persisted, holding onto their love and commitment to each other. As their child and witness to their relationship, I depict their story in this unique and uncanny work of art.
