THE GARDEN AND THE BUGS

The Garden and the Bugs  is a set of ten textile paintings on linen inspired by my early childhood drawings. Made mostly with dots and lines, childhood drawings are a tool for children to explore the world and to communicate through writing. The use of soil from my parents' garden as a medium connects the work to my roots and childhood experiences.

The lines of soil are carefully defined, and my use of these drawings is intentional. In this way I underline the controlled exploration through play and the limitations imposed on behavior and language. I then added embroidery in colors along or across the lines of soil to reignite the sense of exploration and wonder that comes with childhood. The frames of these paintings are fringed in order to break the rules and allow for greater freedom within the artwork. Through this series, I tend to activate a conversation with my inner child, who was controlled during childhood.
