THE CHRYSALIS
2021
The Chrysalis consists of sixteen paper and vellum flowers, with a woven cotton thread outline. The flowers hang upwards on a wooden platform. Each flower is specific and unique, and the materials used are all white. The Chrysalis echoes adolescence and its difficulty; with its number of flowers, sixteen, evokes the end of that time. Each flower is like a chrysalis and evolves into the state between childhood and adulthood. The white color expresses purity and morbidness. The velum represents the shroud (leaving childhood) and the chrysalis
(preparing for the adult world). The flowers are suspended and not touching earth in levitation, in a suspended time. The weaving around each flower and the fact that the flowers are flat, colorless, and odorless accentuate these two aspects.
